From My Journal: A New Blog Series from Ink+Honey!

Happy NYE!

I was very surprised (though I don't know why I was) that the most resounding feedback I received from the surveys I released this past year was a request for blog posts that specifically treat the topic of journaling. It's a topic that's very close to my heart and an activity that most often for me is the birthplace of shift and change.

I forget sometimes that unless you've spent time practicing journaling, it can be a somewhat intimidating process to begin or know how to approach. This series is meant to be a spring board for you--a launching into the great adventure of seeking and finding. There will be no grades, no criticism, no judgement. You can show your journal to the world, or you can lock it away and keep it for your eyes only. This series and journal prompts/activities is meant to activate your creativity and process, not lock you in. So feel free to edit the prompts for yourself as needed.

To surmise: You get to do you, boo.

So, here's what you can expect from the "From My Journal" (or FMJ) blog series from Ink+Honey:

  • An insider's look into my personal journals:

I'm a fairly open book (hahaha) but this is meant to give you ideas to get the creative juices flowing. Looking at creative things begets new creative ideas, and especially in the beginning of developing into a life long journaler, I found that it was helpful to check out what other creatives are doing/writing/discovering. It gave me boldness and the belief that maybe I would have something worth saying too. But if you just want to read my journal pages to see what boy I'm crushing on (It's Phillip), that's fine too.

  • Thoughtful journaling prompts:

Thanks for your grace in advance. I am quite literally making this up as I go, but some of my best journaling has come from others asking the right questions or presenting a project for me to tackle that sparked a beautiful idea I didn't know was inside of me, waiting for the right password to come out. So I'm going to be asking you some questions; they might feel hard or superfluous, or obvious. You get to answer the questions that you would like to in a way that feels most authentic to you; think of me like a tour guide, not a teacher.

  • Creative journaling activities:

Lots of times when I am trying to write in my journal and I feel like I'm getting nowhere, I switch sides of my brain by drawing or painting to distract my subconscious from what I'm trying to do--unlocking all her hidden beliefs and secrets. I paste things I love on these pages and write text over the top--this is typically known as 'art journaling' (google it). This style of journaling is what got me invested in the first place; I didn't want to keep a diary. I wanted to make something beautiful from a visual and literary standpoint, so I'm going to share some projects with you to get you started.

The first journaling activity drops tomorrow so get ready for that! And if you want to get this specific series sent to your email, just sign up below!

I'm so excited to share with you all!

XO,

Abigail
